A special feature on NBA player Rui Hachimura, a Washington Wizards forward, appeared in Friday's digital edition of the New York Times. The headline read, "For this N.B.A. Rookie, Reality TV Is an Escape That Feels Like Home," and featured a photo of the player himself smiling while enjoying the television show that helps see him through hard times.
The article goes more into detail about Hachimura love of the Fuji TV romantic variety show, "Terrace House," which he's watched since his time in school. When he would become homesick during his time at Gonzaga University in Washington State, or even now during self-isolation due to the coronavirus outbreak, he loses himself in three things: his training, video games and this television program.
In the article, Hachimura said: "When I'm watching the show, I can forget everything. I'm 'Terrace House' for life."
The program is also available on the video distribution site Netflix, so it's even making an impact in the United States.
