'Haaland time!' - Man City fans have transfer theory as Ferran Torres completes Barcelona move

Versatile attacker Ferran Torres has completed his permanent move to Spanish giants Barcelona, Manchester City have officially announced.

The Spaniard, who has been sidelined since October because of a foot injury, has joined the La Liga outfit on a long-term deal, putting pen to paper on a contract at the Nou Camp until the summer of 2027.

Barcelona have also confirmed that they have inserted a release clause within Torres' contract amounting to a staggering £842million.

On Torres' exit, City Director of Football Txiki Begiristain told the club's website : "Ferran should be proud of what he has achieved here at Manchester City.

"Last season was his first time in a new country, but he adapted well. He always gave 100 per cent, worked hard for the team and scored goals which helped us win trophies.

"Injury unfortunately prevented him from playing more games this season, but Ferran is a player we have all enjoyed working with and we wish him all the best at Barcelona and for the rest of his career."

Torres enjoyed a productive start to this season, making himself familiar to the centre-forward role, scoring twice and claiming an assist in the 5-0 romp against Arsenal.

Despite his recent spell on the sidelines, which came at the worst possible time for him considering just how well he had started the season at the Etihad Stadium, Barcelona soon maintained a firm interest in his services and wanted to take him back to his homeland.

With his exit having now been confirmed, MEN Sport has taken a close look at how City's supporters have reacted to the 21-year-old's departure from the club.

Having sold Torres for somewhere in the region of £50million, some of City's supporters, as shown in the messages displayed above, are now hoping that the club uses that money to try and sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

Haaland, who is also the subject of interest from Manchester United, has a big-money release clause within his contract coming into effect in a few months time and City remain on the hunt for a striker.

Whilst the money earned from the sale of Torres will not be enough to fund a move directly for the Dortmund ace, it could certainly help.

Torres, who turns 22 in February, made 43 appearances for City, netting 16 goals and claiming four assists.
