Ha Ha Clinton-Dix eager to earn red zone opportunities on offense

Matt Nagy brought a pile of new plays, coaching strategies and overall energy during his first season as Chicago Bears head coach.

After years of stale performances under John Fox and Dowell Loggains, the offense evolved with Nagy and offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich.

One of the many wrinkles Nagy introduced was the use of defensive players in unusual formations in the red zone. This tactic isn’t new, but the Bears used multiple defensive players in various formations throughout the season.

Their newest safety, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix may want a piece of the pie in 2019.

Appearing on the Bears All-Access Show, Clinton-Dix was asked about the possibility of lining up on offense at some point in 2019 and whether he would welcome the opportunity.

“Me and Coach Nagy already had a talk about that, so we’ll see how that goes, but I’m excited about it,” he said.

Host Jeff Joniak brought up Clinton-Dix’s days as a high school running back.

“I was OK. I’m not like these guys in the NFL, but I can still do something,” Clinton-Dix said.

Last season, Akiem Hicks, Nick Kwiatkowski, Khalil Mack and Roy Robertson-Harris lined up for short gains in the red zone or were part of a two-point conversion attempt. Hicks and Kwiatkowski reached the end zone.
