H&M to open new Newcastle store in Eldon Square offering something very different for shoppers

Fashion favourite H&M has announced it will be launching a new shop in Eldon Square this summer, with some changes in store.

The shop will occupy space over two floors of the Newcastle shopping centre and will be selling a full range of men's, ladies, children's and 'divided' wear - which is mix-and-match trendsetting clothing for young customers.

The company is promising "great quality fashion at affordable prices" and a sustainable approach - and it says that shoppers can also expect something very different.

A spokesman said: "The new store will offer customers a very different interior look and feel to other H&M stores, with a focus on creating a modern and relevant shopping experience.

"Customers visiting this store will notice a warmer, more relaxing interior and relaxed environment and a lower volume of products which will be displayed in an inspirational play."

The retailer, which was founded in 1947, opened its first UK store in 1976 and has gone on to expand to 240 outlets.

It says sustainability is at the heart of its business and in 2013 it launched a garment collection service, which invites its customers worldwide to make in-store clothing and textile donations which are then recycled so that nothing goes into landfill.

A precise date for the opening of its latest store has not yet been revealed.

But Toni Gallery, manager for H&M in the UK and Ireland, said: "We are extremely excited to be opening a brand new store at Eldon Square this summer.

"Our aim is always to provide our customers with the best shopping experience possible and we are confident that our new store will offer exactly this."

More details about the development are due to be made available soon.

Bernice Nesham of APAM, the asset manager at Eldon Square, said that the centre is "delighted" about the news and called the investment a long-term commitment to Newcastle as well as "a fantastic new addition to our retail mix."
