H&M secret codes that can help shoppers find the best clothes

If you're looking for a new outfit in a high street store it can be hard to know where to start.

With seemingly endless different styles and sizes, finding a great outfit and knowing what to pair takes time and good eye. Long before I started working at the ECHO, during my time at university, I had a part-time job at H&M on Speke's New Mersey Retail Park.

It was during my time working there that I learnt there was a hidden system, unbeknown to most shoppers, which dictates what goes where in each H&M store.

When I first started working there I used to question why the same kinds of items, such as jumpers or going out dresses, were not located in the same part of the store.

But I soon realised the labels on the clothing dictated which items were grouped together. Here we've decoded what some of those labels mean to help you know what to look out for on your next shopping trip.

It's also worth pointing out that not every H&M store stocks every one of these labels which can vary from shop to shop.

Modern Classics - grey label

Modern Classics include clothes that make ideal office or formal occasion wear, such as suit trousers and long skirts.

Everyday - white label, often located towards the front of a store although this may vary

This represents everyday clothing in the store and can include everything from patterned trousers to bright shirts, blazers and skirts.

L.O.G.G

L.O.G.G clothes are easier to spot as the name is written on the labels. It stands for Label of Graded Goods and includes more casual clothes from linen shirts to loose dresses, checked shirts and rain coasts.

Conscious

Similarly to L.O.G.G, you can spot Conscious clothes from the name on the label. Clothing from this line is made from at least 50% of more sustainable materials — like organic cotton or recycled polyester.

H&M also runs a garment collecting programme which means shoppers can take a bag of any unwanted clothes of textiles, by any brand and in any condition, to one of their stores in exchange for a voucher to use towards their next shop.

DIVIDED

DIVIDED includes affordable clothes for teenagers and young people.

Trend - cream coloured label

Trend includes clothes inspired by those on the runway but at a more affordable price.

Party - black label

Exactly as described, Party is a collection of all H&M's partywear and going out clothes.

Premium

Premium clothes are also identified by the name on the label and include items such as cashmere, suede and leather.

Other H&M labels include: the denim collection and the basics range where you can find all your plain tops, joggers and t-shirts.
