H.I.V.E by Mark Walden – review

This book is about a boy named Otto Malpenese, who was the reason for the Prime Minister’s recent infamous speech. He was captured by some guards and was taken to a school, which is hidden inside an active volcano. This school is called the Higher Institute of Villainous Education, and is run by Dr Nero. Otto quickly makes friends with a boy named Wing, but does not like this six-year school. His main aim is to escape, but it is very difficult as there is very tight security and numerous guards, all armed with weapons. Can he escape?

I really enjoyed this book, which is the first in a 7 book series, and could not put it down, as Mark Walden has created a very interesting plot, which features many twists and turns. It also contains lots of detail and description, which allows the reader to understand clearly what is happening. Straight away, the author hooks the reader into the story and makes them think that they are witnessing the plot in front of their eyes.

H.I.V.E

I would recommend this book to anyone over the age of 9 because it is not an extremely difficult plot to understand, but involves the use of weapons and magic, including a short term memory loss.

I really cannot wait to read the other books in the series, as I am certain that they will also be written in the same intriguing fashion and will hook the reader into a stunning plot.
