Four people killed as two light aircraft crash in NSW with hours of each other

Emergency services at the scene of the crash at Spring Hill.

Just three hours after two men were killed in Orange when a gyrocopter crashed, another light aircraft went down north of Wentworth in New South Wales's far south-west, killing another two men.

The gyrocopter crashed shortly after taking off from Orange Airport in central west New South Wales.

Police were called to a paddock on Forest Road, Spring Hill, shortly after 12:00pm.

Police confirmed both victims were men, but would not release their identities.

There were no other passengers.

Speaking at the crash scene, NSW Police Central West Superintendent Chris Taylor said police were talking to witnesses who saw the gyrocopter's final moments.

"It's very early stages yet in our investigation," he said.

"But we'll be able to get some idea from [the witnesses].

"We have got a forensic services officers and the rescue squad [at the scene] and we've been in contact with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau in Canberra in relation to the investigation of the crash."

While investigators were scouring the scene of the crash in Orange, about 3:30pm, emergency services were called to a rural property on the Silver City Highway, about 50 kilometres north of Wentworth, after reports of another light aircraft crash.

The two men on board died at the scene.

Initial reports were that the aircraft crashed just after take-off.
