Gyrano Kerk tipped for Celtic switch as Utrecht boss braces for bids for star winger

Utrecht manager John van den Brom expects Celtic to make a move for Gyrano Kerk once more when the window opens.

The Hoops made a late bid in January to sign the 24-year-old, who has netted 11 goals for the Dutch side this season, but Utrecht turned down their offer.

Kerk later insisted he wouldn't have moved to Scotland anyway because he has his heart set on a move to English football instead.

But the Eredivisie side's manager, van den Brom, reckons Neil Lennon remains interested in the exciting wide man.

He said: "At this moment there are no actual concrete offers for Gyrano, but Celtic were the club most interested.

"I suspect the coronavirus pandemic will put most transfers on hold just now, but I think the transfer window will be extended to September this year.

"And when that happens I think there will be a lot of interest in Gyrano again. We are expecting that."

Utrecht's owner Frans van Seumeren revealed in February that Celtic tried to snatch Kerk at the end of the transfer window.

He said: "Lots of clubs asked about Kerk, but they never turned into actual offers. The only club who actually made a bid was Celtic.

"I'm surprised we did not receive more interest to be honest because he is a player who is constantly a threat and involved in most of our goals."

Celtic landed just two players instead in the last transfer window - Ismaila Soro and Patryk Klimala.
