ST. LOUIS _ Jedd Gyorko hit a solo homer third inning and added a two-run blast in the fifth, leading the Cardinals in a 3-2 victory over the San Diego Padres to sweep a day/night doubleheader Wednesday at Busch Stadium.
The night game drew 41,012 fans.
Gyorko, acquired from the Padres in a December trade for outfielder Jon Jay, has homers in the last five games against his ex-teammates and is now 13-for-21 (.619) with six homers and 10 RBIs against San Diego his season.
The Cardinals, who beat the Padres 10-2 Monday and 4-2 in the earlier Wednesday game, will look for the four-game series sweep Thursday.
Starter Jaime Garcia (7-6) pitched into the sixth and got the win, receiving relief help from Seth Maness, Tyler Lyons, Jonathan Broxton, Kevin Siegrist and Seung Hwan Oh.
It was the fourth save of the season for Oh, who also picked up the save in Wednesday's afternoon contest.
The Cardinals are now 8-16 in one-run games this season.
Each team had seven hits. Gyorko had three hits, two home runs and three RBIs for the Cards. For the Padres, Wil Myers had a pair of hits.
Paul Clemens (1-1) started and took the loss for San Diego, which came into St. Louis following a three-game weekend sweep of the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants at Petco Park in San Diego.
