Gyms, swimming pools, leisure centres and softplay facilities to finally reopen in Wales in 10 days

Indoor gyms, swimming pools, softplay centres and leisure centres in Wales will reopen on Monday, August 10, it has been announced.

First Minister Mark Drakeford confirmed the news on Friday morning, with further details expected to follow at a lunchtime briefing.

Pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes are able to re-open indoors from August 3, and the leisure sector have been anxiously waiting for a date.

Gyms have been allowed to reopen indoors in England since July 25.

You can see live updates from First Minister Mark Drakeford's press conference here, and details of all the announcements to lockdown changes that we know about here.

Mr Drakeford told Radio 5 Live: "Three main things in Wales today.

"We are going to allow hospitality to reopen indoors as from Monday, cafes, restaurants, pubs and so on.

"A week from Monday we will reopen swimming pools, gyms and leisure centres."

He added: "It is a very careful balancing act. The virus in Wales continues to fall."

Welsh Government said: "The First Minister will thank businesses for working with the Welsh Government and introducing new measures to reduce the spread of coronavirus but he will also warn action will be taken against those who ignore the measures designed to keep Wales safe."
