Gyms, pools and libraries preparing to reopen

A range of cultural and leisure services across South Lanarkshire are preparing to reopen.

Following on from the Scottish Government’s announcement on easing Covid-19 restrictions, a number of services will be back up and running from Monday, April 26.

These include indoor gyms at leisure centres, such as the John Wright Sports Centre, some swimming pools including Hamilton Water Palace, six libraries, country parks, museums and East Kilbride ice rink.

The remaining leisure centres, swimming pools and libraries are scheduled to reopen either on Monday, May 10 or 17.

Indoor fitness classes should also resume from May 17.

Small scale events at cultural service venues can also begin to take place from May 17.

A number of services are already operating, including golf, non-contact outdoor training for under-18s and outdoor learning and adventure.

Calderglen Zoo’s outdoor enclosures are already open and the indoor areas open from Monday, April 26.

General manager of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, David Booth, said: “We are delighted to set out a recovery plan for when our leisure and cultural services can begin to resume.

“Of course this is all dependent on Scottish Government advice and may be subject to further changes given the dynamic nature of the Covid situation.

“I would ask everyone to continue to follow the advice given by the Scottish Government, but there is no doubt we are beginning to see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

“We are looking forward to welcoming our customers back, and please be assured we will be doing so in a manner that will keep you and our staff safe.”

More information on what will be opening and when, is available from the South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture (SLLC) website.
