Gyms ordered to close under new national lockdown restrictions

Gyms will be ordered to close under new national lockdown restrictions.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a new national lockdown across England yesterday.

On Thursday, people will be urged to stay at home in a bid to reverse the spread of coronavirus.

As part of the restrictions, non-essential shops, leisure and entertainment venues will all be closed. This includes gyms and golf clubs.

People will be allowed outside to exercise and socialise in public spaces outside with their household or one other person, but not indoors or in private gardens.

Examples of recreation include meeting up with a friend in the park for a walk or to sit on a bench and eat a sandwich.

Unlike the first lockdown, there will be no limit to the number of times a day you can exercise outside.

Mr Johnson said: "I’m afraid non-essential shops, leisure and entertainment venues will all be closed – though click and collect services can continue and essential shops will remain open, so there is no need to stock up."

The new national lockdown will run from Thursday November 5 until Wednesday December 2.

The lockdown will then be eased on a regional basis according to the latest coronavirus case data at that time.
