Gymnasium in Adelaide's east closed after asbestos roof pressure cleaned

The EPA told people to stay clear of the area.

The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has warned the public to stay clear of a gymnasium at Payneham, in Adelaide's east, after reports an asbestos roof had been pressure cleaned.

EPA investigators went to the Portrush Road business about 1:30pm on Thursday.

The Metropolitan Fire Service, SafeWork SA and the local council were all called to assess the situation and in a statement the EPA said a clean-up had started.

The statement also said the Goodlife Health Club would be closed until further notice.

More details are expected to be released on Friday.
