Gylfi Sigurdsson describes how he used Carlo Ancelotti position change to score Everton winner

Gylfi Sigurdsson has revealed how a late position change from Carlo Ancelotti couldn't stop him getting into the box to score Everton's winner against Sheffield United.

The Iceland international was in the right place at the right time to pick up a lay-off from Abdoulaye Doucoure and pick out the bottom corner, securing a 1-0 win away from home for his side.

That puts the Blues into second place in the Premier League table having played 15 matches this season.

But, following the game, Sigurdsson revealed that his position had actually switched shortly before the winning goal was slammed home.

The midfielder told BT Sport: "The gaffer actually just moved me to defensive midfield, so I'm not actually sure what I was doing in the box!

"But it was nice to get the ball. Bernie [Bernard] brought it down wonderfully for Doucs [Doucoure] and then he set me up.

"So it was a nice little tap in!"

Sheffield United are still on the hunt for their first Premier League win of the season and find themselves at the bottom of the table.

However, Sigurdsson and his teammates knew that a win would not be easy to come by at Bramall Lane, and the weather didn't make things any easier.

"We needed to get three points," he added.

"We knew it was going to be tough coming here, I think they've been quite unlucky this season. They've been in a lot of the games where they've just lost by one goal or so, they're not a bad team.

"The conditions made it a little bit difficult for us, but it was a perfect night - 1-0 away from home."

Everton are in a lofty position in the table, just two points behind league-leaders Liverpool - although their rivals have a game-in-hand on the Blues.

However, the players aren't getting ahead of themselves yet.

When asked if he's allowing himself to dream, Sigurdsson replied: "No, not yet! It's still very early on and things change very quickly in this league.

"I think we had a fantastic start, we had a few games where we dropped off and it didn't look too good. But we picked back up with four on the bounce now.

"But it's early days. Hopefully we can continue this throughout January and that will set us up nicely for the rest of the season."
