Gyles Brandreth back at the helm of The Business Day - as Humber flagship event goes virtual

Gyles Brandreth is to return as the host of The Business Day - as a virtual event - in a climax to Humber Business Week.

The three-hour free-to-view inspirational extravaganza will be live streamed from Bridlington Spa, with those on stage adhering to Covid restrictions.

Speakers have yet to be revealed, but previous years have seen Lord Sugar, Baroness Brady, Bob Geldof KBE, John Simpson, Alexander Armstrong, Naga Munchetty and Josh Littlejohn light up the venue.

The Business Day is organised by Stephen Parnaby OBE, event director, on behalf of For Entrepreneurs Only and in conjunction with Bridlington Spa. More than 20 businesses sponsor it.

Mr Parnaby, vice chairman of Hull and East Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership, said:“Following the cancellation in 2020 it was important we still had an event for 2021, whilst ensuring the quality and calibre of speakers and content that The Business Day has become known for.

“This year’s event would not have been possible without the support of the business community, to which I am incredibly grateful and I am excited about the plans for this year, which we will be announcing in due course.”

A prolific broadcaster, award-winning interviewer and columnist, novelist, children’s author and biographer - the latter has seen him lead many tributes to Prince Philip in recent days, having spent time with the Duke of Edinburgh.

His CV also includes time in Westminster and the West End, while his extensive teddy bear collection is displayed at Newby Hall near Ripon, 50 miles inland from Brid.

Previously the wordsmith extraordinaire has entertained 700 business leaders uniting for a day of networking, discovery and insight.

Mark Lonsdale, general manager at Bridlington Spa, said: “The Business Day has firmly established itself as the end to Humber Business Week and I am pleased we have been able to uphold that tradition in supporting this event once again.”

Further announcements and speaker line-up will be announced in due course.

The event will be live streamed on thebusinessday.co.uk on Friday, June 11 from 10am to 1pm.

It follows a packed five days for the returning Humber Business Week, with more than 30 events planned after a pandemic pause.
