Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed her late father's cancer battle was the reason she started her wellness website Goop.com.
The award-winning actress' dad Bruce Paltrow died in 2002 after suffering a heart attack following complications from throat cancer and pneumonia.
In her latest interview as cover girl of Town and Country magazine, Gwyneth, 47, admitted she felt helpless at the time when her dad was receiving treatment.
She looked into food and nutrition in a bid to try and help him, which led to the start of her interest in wellness.
"His treatment was so brutal, I was thinking, almost out of desperation, that we had to be able to do something else to help him," she told the magazine, adding: "That's when I started to research food and nutrition."
Today, Gwyneth owns her booming business Goop, which is a health and wellness brand.
She credits her late father to inspiring her journey that helped her get to where she is today.
The superstar also admits she hopes to "impact the world positively" on her main mission with wellness.
She revealed: "You can choose to engage in your life and participate in it, or you can back out and criticize everybody else in your arena."
The ex-wife of Coldplay's Chris Martin, 43, says her idea of wellness is all about "listening to yourself, tuning into what interests you, and trying things".
Speaking about her father's death in 2005, Gwyneth told the Evening Standard : "I wasn't adamant enough in cleaning up his diet and getting rid of the cancer."
She said she felt partly to blame for his tragic death, adding: "Now I really feel I could have extended his quality of life. But I wasn’t as strong as I should have been."
Gwyneth Paltrow is the cover star of Town & Country’s May 2020 Issue, on newsstands now.
