These days, Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow has appeared less and less onscreen, opting instead to focus on her lifestyle brand, Goop.
Turns out, the reason for her stepping away from acting has a lot to do with the now-disgraced mega-producer Harvey Weinstein.
“And, and again, like this wasn’t conscious at the time, but I started to feel, and, you know, frankly, I think part of my, part of the shine of acting wore off, you know, being in such intense public scrutiny, being a kid who’s like living every breakup on every headline,” Paltrow said on SiriusXM’s "Quarantined with Bruce" show.
"So if you compound those things with the fact that like, you know, to be totally candid, I had a really rough boss for most of my movie career at Miramax," she continued.
Paltrow publicly accused Weinstein of sexually harassing her in a hotel room when she was just 22 years old, as reported by The New York Times in 2017.
"I was a kid, I was signed up, I was petrified," she said at the time.
In 2019, Paltrow said that she had not entirely retired from acting, clarifying that "Goop is my full-time passion."
“...Occasionally when something is the right thing and it works out around my children and my Goop life, I’m able to participate,” she said on the Today show.
"I think I’m just not focused on full-time acting right now."
More recently, Paltrow did appear in the Netflix series The Politician and frequently reprises her role as "Pepper Potts" in assorted Marvel franchise films.
Weinstein, who worked with Paltrow on a number of 1990s Miramax titles, including Emma and Shakespeare in Love, has been sentenced to 23 years behind bars for rape and sexual abuse.
