Gwyneth Paltrow launches follow-up to infamous 'this smells like my vagina' candle

GOOP

Gwyneth Paltrow has launched a follow-up to the infamous “This smells like my vagina” candle that sold out on the actor’s lifestyle website, Goop.

The actor unveiled the first candle in January, prompting a flurry of confused, tickled, and outraged comments online.

Despite the fanfare, or perhaps because of it, the candle, which cost $75 (£60), quickly sold out.

Paltrow later explained that the geranium, citrusy bergamot, and cedar-scented product started off as a joke. Then, she thought it could be a “feminist statement”.

Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel on his eponymous talk show, the Politician star said: “I was like, ‘Wouldn’t that be cool if somebody actually had the guts to do that?'

“What a punk-rock, feminist statement, to have that on your table.”

Now, Paltrow is back with another ”punk-rock, feminist statement to have on your table”.

The new candle, which is currently only available to pre-order, bears the words: “This candle smells like my orgasm”.

The product description explains that the scent is a combination of grapefruit, berries and gunpowder tea.

It reads: “A fitting follow-up to that candle – you know the one – this blend is made with tart grapefruit, neroli, and ripe cassis berries blended with gunpowder tea and Turkish rose absolutes for a scent that’s sexy, surprising, and wildly addictive.”

Like its predecessor, which is still available to purchase, the candle costs $75 (£60).

Goop is frequently criticised by health professionals for making unsubstantiated scientific claims about the benefits of its products.

In 2018 the lifestyle brand paid more than £100,000 in civil penalties over controversial products, including egg-shaped jade eggs that were intended to be placed into the vagina.
