Gwyneth Paltrow jokes she was ‘high on mushrooms’ when she created her viral Goop vagina candle

When Gwyneth Paltrow's brand Goop announced its vagina scented candle it immediately sold out - although Twitter users wondered who, exactly, was buying it (for $75, no less).

The viral sensation led to a Twitter uproar, with one user asking "Does Gwyneth specify which day of her cycle her vagina candle is on?" and comedian Neal Brennan joking, "That Gwyneth Paltrow vagina scented candle is gonna be great for cheating men. "Nobody was here, baby. I'm burning a Gwyneth."

Paltrow appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers and talked about her new Netflix show, her new wellness-based Goop Celebrity Cruise (although she's never been on a cruise before) and most importantly, her instantly iconic candle.

Now, Paltrow has revealed exactly how she came up with her controversial candle.

Paltrow says, "Well, it's a candle," when asked to explain Goop's latest offering. "It's called 'This Smells Like My Vagina,'" she announces while Meyers chuckles.

"It sort of started as a joke...and we were kind of messing around and I smelled this beautiful thing and I was like 'This smells like my vagina!' and I was kidding, obviously," she says before joking, "And we were on mushrooms - no, we weren't we weren't on mushrooms."

She calls the candle "punk rock" and says it's "just a little bit of a subversive candle for all of us out there."

If you're for some reason not interested in the vagina candle (or just unable to buy one), there is another option (and not just a regular Diptyque offering).

The TAXI Ad Agency has created a $100 'Smells Like My Penis' but it's even more expensive, coming in hot at $100 to highlight the gender wage gap.
