Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt reflect on their doomed engagement in touching interview

Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt broke their silence on their very short lived engagement.

The duo were Hollywood’s hottest couple when they began dating in 1994, and even starred alongside each other as husband and wife in the critically-acclaimed thriller Se7en in 1995.

Brad popped the question in 1996, but less than a year later, they parted ways, with Gwyneth later blaming her “immaturity” for the reason behind their split.

Despite breaking up, the former couple still have a lot of affection for one another, and in a new interview for the Iron Man star’s Goop website, the friendly exes reflected on their relationship.

The 49-year-old Oscar-winning actress brought up the subject of her late father Bruce, who died in 2002, as she revealed he approved of Brad and was excited to have him as a son-in-law.

“Though we didn't get married, unfortunately,” she added.

“Right. Oh man, everything works out, doesn't it?” Brad laughed.

“Yes, it does. I finally found the Brad I was supposed to marry. It just took me 20 years,” Gwyneth joked, referencing her husband Brad Falchuk, who she wed in 2018.

“And it's lovely to have you as a friend now,” Brad went on. “And I do love you.”

“I love you so much,” Gwyneth sweetly replied.

The actor also heaped praise on his ex's late father, and said Bruce had a "profound effect on me and is someone I still think about."

"That man was funny. He was funny. And you guys were so funny together, ripping across the table, which was a rarity that I hadn't experienced much, and I loved it," Brad recalled.

After breaking up with Brad, the Shakespeare in Love star wed Coldplay frontman Chris Martin in 2003, and the couple share two children - Apple, 18, and Moses, 16.

However, they parted ways in a “conscious uncoupling” in 2014, and Gwyneth married Brad Falchuk four years later.

Brad began dating Jennifer Aniston a year after splitting from Gwyneth, and the high-profile couple tied the knot in 2000, before calling it quits and filing for divorce five years later.

The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star then wed Angelina Jolie, and the couple share six children - Shiloh, Zahara, twins Vivienne and Knox, Maddox, and Pax.

They split in 2016, after less than two years of marriage.
