Gwynedd tourism attraction plans touring park and shepherd's hut development

A Gwynedd tourism attraction wants to diversify to safeguard its future with plans for tourist accommodation at the site.

Corris Craft Centre, between Dolgellau and Machynlleth, was set up nearly 40 years ago and attracts around 60,000 visitors a year.

Now the owners want to diversify by adding a small touring park and a shepherd's hut at the site on the A487.

This would include a facility for 11 touring units on land to the north of the centre.

A statement from planning agent Lambe Planning and Design said: "This development will assist the viability of the existing businesses at the craft centre and safeguard its future.

"It will provide high quality facilities for people with motor homes and touring caravans and encourage them to visit the craft centre, with visitors staying for a couple of nights or longer, while they enjoy all that the craft centre studios and associated visitor attraction have to offer."

It added: "Corris Craft Centre needs to diversify and the additional economic activity would provide an additional source of income, enable the attraction to diversify, safeguard existing employment and provide a much needed facility in the area.

"The proposals would create additional employment and contribute a significant amount to the local rural economy which is heavily dependent on the tourist trade."

The application has been submitted to Gwynedd council.
