GWS' Sam Reid suspended for bump on Fyfe

Sam Reid has been offered a two-match AFL ban for a bump which concussed Fremantle skipper Nat Fyfe. (AAP)

A bump which concussed Fremantle superstar Nat Fyfe has cost Greater Western Sydney's Sam Reid a two-game AFL suspension.

Dual Brownlow medallist Fyfe was playing as a permanent forward when he copped an off-the-ball bump to the head from Reid in the Dockers' 31-point victory over the Giants on Sunday.

Match review officer Michael Christian graded the incident as careless conduct, high impact and high conduct and Reid has been offered a two-match ban if he pleads guilty.

Under the AFL's new concussion guidelines, the Fremantle captain has been automatically ruled out of the Dockers' round-three match against Carlton at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

And given his history with concussion, Fyfe is no guarantee to return for the round-four clash with Hawthorn, either.

Christian conceded it was a difficult process when assessing the incident.

"In this particular case, there was certainly a long discussion around whether there was a brace or a bump," he told reporters.

"But we believe there was an election to bump.

"There's been numerous examples over my time when there's been a player concussed, but there's not been a case to answer.

"But to say that any concussion is automatically a suspension is actually not correct."

After a horror 0-2 start to the season, GWS can not afford to lose any player as their poor form last year has been carried into 2021.
