GWR passenger says train between Temple Meads and Cardiff Central was "dangerously overcrowded"

A GWR customer has raised concerns over overcrowding on rush hour trains between Bristol Temple Meads and Cardiff Central.

Many commuters use the railway line between Bristol and Cardiff to get to work and back home but some have experienced overcrowding on services recently.

We recently reported on customers refusing to be let on services from Bath to Bristol due to overcrowding during rush hour.

And just over a week later, we've received reports of further overcrowding on the Great Western Railway network.

Peter Milmine sent this email to GWR, following his concerns about of its services.

He wrote yesterday (November 21), "I write to inform you of the dangerously over crowded service on the 17:54 (late again this evening) and I find your responses thus far are somewhat lacking in explaining what you intend to do to improve the service.

"This is a key service linking Bristol and South Wales. To have only two carriages in rush hour traffic is an insult to fee paying customers.

"I again demand that you deliver a safe and timely service for your customers.

How to claim train delay compensation

"You know that this service is going to be busy and I reject your assertions that it is safe. Common sense dictates that if the train were to stop or slow quickly, there is a great risk of standing passengers being injured.

"If you fail to address this serious issue, it could only be a matter of time before someone suffers a serious injury or worse."

GWR's response

A spokesperson for Great Western Railway said: "We are sorry. This train was operated with less carriages than normal due to competing maintenance requirements."
