Singer Gwen Stefani choked back tears and was left "shaking" on The One Show as she was surprised with a secret message from her musical hero. And the visibly emotional Hollaback Girl singer reduced show hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas to fits of giggles as she cut down the former footballer during their interview.
The message was from Pauline Black of the ska band The Selecter, whom Gwen credits as being a massive inspiration to her musically and on whom she based a lot of her own unique style. The No Doubt frontwoman told the presenters on Monday's BBC One show: "[Pauline] was really the only girl that was out there on that kind of scene."
She added: "Everything about my style was trying to take from her because her style was so extreme. Definitely a huge fan. I wouldn't be me without The Selecter and all those bands."

In classic The One Show style the Welsh presenter shocked Gwen by saying the show had a "bit of a surprise" for the 53-year-old – a personal video message from Pauline herself. After the clip, which saw the ska singer telling Gwen she was "thrilled" to have influenced her music, Gwen was seen to be overcome with emotion.
"I am crying right now," she said. "These are real tears. Woah, I'm shaking. I can't believe that – that is incredible."
Jermaine interjected and began: "You can understand why..."
"No," Gwen said, cutting him off. "You don't understand anything, okay?" she added smiling. "She was like..." Her sassy comment caused Jermaine and Alex to fall about laughing as Alex said: "You tell him, Gwen!"
"She was my idol when I was like 13," Gwen continued. "And she just talked to me on... It's crazy. You don't understand.... I became a huge fan and wanted to [come here]. Never thinking I would come here – let alone be on TV right now talking to you guys. And then watching her talk to me on TV – that was weird. Thank you guys!"
Later on in the show Alex was forced to apologise to viewers as her mobile phone went off as she introduced the next segment. After Jermaine noticed it, the 46-year-old from Ammanford said: "Sorry, that was my phone," before Jermaine responded: "Again! Every week!"
