Gwen Jorgensen sets out to win only second medal in triathlon for United States at Rio Olympics

The United States has just one medal in the triathlon since it was introduced at the Olympics in 2000 _ a bronze from Susan Williams at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

Gwen Jorgensen hopes to win the second, except she's going for the gold.

The 30-year-old enters Saturday's race in Rio de Janeiro as one of the most consistent triathletes over the past three years. She was the 2014 and 2015 ITU World Triathlon Series Champion and had won 13 consecutive triathlons before finishing second on April 9 in Gold Coast, Australia. Prior to that streak, the longest win streak for a woman triathlete was three.

Jorgensen competed in the 2012 Olympics but finished 38th because one of her tires blew out during the cycling portion.
