Guy Ritchie's live-action adaptation of Aladdin is coming to Sky

Half a year after it's theatrical release, Guy Ritchie's live action adaptation of Aladdin is coming to the Sky Store.

Bringing to life Disney's beloved cartoon from 1992, Will Smith plays the role of the Genie while Aladdin himself is played by Mena Massoud.

Raking in over $1bn at the box office worldwide, this is one of many live action remakes sanctioned by Disney. Other favourites include The Jungle and the recently released Lion King.

During this production of Aladdin in 2016, Disney said that while they would keep the musical elements of the film, their focus would be on creating "an ambitious and nontraditional" version of the story.

Along with it's gigantic box office success, the film gained plenty of plaudits from film critics. Peter Debruge, writer for Variety magazine, said: "Will Smith steps into Robin Williams's shoes, bringing fresh attitude to the role of the Genie in Guy Ritchie's high-risk, mostly rewarding live-action remake."

In the past few months, screenplay writer Dan Lin has alluded to the possibility of a sequel. Other clues suggest that in fact a prequel, delving into how Aladdin's Genie ended up in the lamp, is also in the works.

Aladdin is just one of many of the year's most successful films that will be coming to Sky over the coming months.

Sky Cinema boasts a new premiere each month with critically acclaimed films like Bohemian Rhapsody and family-favourites like Holmes and Watson among their upcoming schedule.
