Guy Hamilton dead: James Bond director dies aged 93

The James Bond director Guy Hamilton has died aged 93.

He died on the Spanish island of Majorca, where he lived, according to local press.

As an official James Bond director, he was famed for directing classics including Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun, the latter two in which he directed Sir Roger Moore.

Moore paid tribute to the "wonderful director" on Twitter and said 2016 has been a "horrid" year so far.

Aside from Bond, Moore directed Michael Caine in Battle of Britain and Harrison Ford in Force 10 from Navarone. He also was behind the camera for two Agatha Christie Adaptations: The Mirror Crack'd in 1980 and Evil Under The Sun in 1982.

Born in 1922 in Paris to English parents, Hamilton moved to the UK in the 1930s. He began his film career working as a director's assistant for Carol Reed who directed The Third Man and Oliver!

Hamilton married twice, first to actress Naomi Chance and then to wife Kerima, the French actress best known for Outcast of the Islands, which Hamilton worked on as an assistant director.
