Guwahati: Wild buffalo strays into Kharguli, transquilised

GUWAHATI: The forest department on Thursday tranquilised a water buffalo that had strayed into the Kharguli area of Guwahati.

The buffalo was spotted first on Wednesday by residents of Kharguli. By evening, the forest department reached the area and tracked the buffalo near a construction site. The officials believe it's a wild buffalo, which might have strayed out of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.

Forest department officials said the first attempt to tranquilise the buffalo was aborted on Wednesday evening since the animal was in the river-bank area. "We called off the operation as there were chances of the buffalo falling into the river," the official added. he buffalo was finally tranquilised on Thursday.
