'Gutted' ITV Dancing On Ice star forced to pull out of The Masked Dancer following injury during rehearsals

There was an unusual unmasking on ITV's The Masked Dancer as it was revealed that duo Pillar & Post had sadly had to withdraw from the competition after Pillar took a tumble in rehearsals and injured her ankle. Host Joel Dommett said it had been a "particularly eventful week" as he announced that they would be forced to say goodbye to the zany dance show's first couple during Saturday night's show (October 2).

Pillar was not in costume at the time she sustained the injury. Joel explained: “Sadly, Pillar took a tumble during rehearsals and I am absolutely gutted to tell you that on medical advice they have had to withdraw from the competition.” He added: "But that doean't mean this case is all wrapped up we still need to find out who they are."

The guessing game panellists Jonathan Ross, Oti Mabuse, Davina McCall and Peter Crouch then shared their final guesses as to who they thought was behind the masks. And Peter's guess was spot-on as Pillar & Post were revealed to be married couple goalkeeping legend David Seaman and former Dancing On Ice professional skater Frankie Poultney.

Frankie said about leaving the competition: “We were gutted as we absolutely loved every minute! It was great fun but a tumble meant our Masked journey came to an end too soon.

"We had such a blast and we were sad that we had to hang up our masks without being able to share our final dance with you all! We have loved being part of this series and we wish the other competitors the best of luck as we continue to watch at home and try to guess who all the other celebrities are!”

Frankie said it made her feel 'so sad' to leave at this point in the competition as all the dancers performed on stage in the same night. She said dancing with her husband was her The Masked Dancer highlight, and David said "dancing with my wife."

A third celeb was unmasked on the night as Tomato Sauce was sent home The character was revealed to be journalist and TV presenter Steph McGovern who said she "absolutely loved it".

The Masked Dancer continues Saturdays at 6.30pm on ITV and ITV Hub
