Gutted Edinburgh Deliveroo diner refused refund as takeaway lunch never arrives

An Edinburgh worker has told how Deliveroo failed to refund his Burger King order that was never delivered.

Josen Jose Mundencherry, 34, had recently returned to the office working as technician for AECOM.

He placed an order for a Whopper meal with large fries and a Sprite Zero through the Deliveroo app on August 18.

Josen became concerned when his food had failed to arrive within its designated time.

He said the popular takeaway app initially refused to refund him only to backtrack after being contacted by Edinburgh Live.

He called the Burger King restaurant at Fountain Park several times - and each time he was assured that his food was on its way - it was not.

The disappointed diner decided to contact Deliveroo after his food failed to arrive and was at first told that a refund would be made.

But then he was told: “We’ve reviewed the details you’ve shared, and unfortunately we won’t be able to offer you compensation this time.

“We hope we can make it up to you next time.”

On the ordeal, Josen said: “At first they agreed to refund me but now they have said that they will be unable to do so. It makes no sense.

“I know it is only £12 but after my incident I went to their Facebook page and it seems like this happens all the time. Someone has to stop them from looting everyday residents of Edinburgh.

“I work as a technician for AECOM and had only recently returned to the office after the pandemic. I decided to order in lunch but was disappointed when it did not arrive.

“During the first two weeks of my complaint they said that they would pay my refund but then all of a sudden said they would not. I am pretty sure that it is a bot that responds to their queries as there is not a phone number for customer complaints to call.

“The reason I am raising this issue is due to how widespread the problem appears to be.

“I’d like to see my case refunded and Deliveroo should be more responsible and easier to contact with better customer service. Burger King should be taking Deliveroo off their books and they should only be hiring responsible members of staff.”

It is understood that Deliveroo have since refunded Josen after Edinburgh Live had chased them regarding the issue.

They say that he has been fully compensated along with an additional £20 goodwill credit.
