Gustavo Scarpa Nottingham Forest absence explained as injury update given

January signing Gustavo Scarpa has missed the last two Nottingham Forest games due to a calf injury, according to latest reports.

The Brazilian joined Forest in the winter window after impressing with Palmeiras, where he was named the best player in the league. Scarpa became a fans’ favourite in his early appearances with Forest.

The 29-year-old started the win against Leicester City and the loss against Fulham and was a substitute in the win over Southampton and the draw vs Bournemouth. After being named on the bench for two games in a row, Scarpa was omitted from the squad for two games before the international break.

Scarpa made his comeback as a late substitution in the 2-1 loss vs Newcastle just before the international break.

The player was also a substitute against Leeds United earlier this month, but has not been included in the squad for the last two Premier League games. Steve Cooper has revealed that Scarpa has been injured , but has not given any more details.

Sport Witness now report that the player has suffered a calf injury, with there being no date set for his return to action. It adds that it’s ‘not yet known’ if Scarpa will be back in order to make a big contribution to Forest’s aim of surviving in the Premier League at the end of the season.

The Brazilian himself posted an update on social media last week, uploading a picture of himself in the gym at the Nigel Doughty Academy. As a caption he wrote: “Getting better.”

Forest will be hoping that Scarpa is back in time to play a part in their fight to stay in the league beyond this season. The Reds are back in action on Saturday when they take on Liverpool at Anfield (3pm), they also face games against Brighton, Brentford and Southampton in the coming weeks.
