Gus Poyet the bookies favourite to take over at Sheffield Wednesday after Tony Pulis sacking

Former Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet is the bookmakers favourite to take over at Sheffield Wednesday.

Tony Pulis was sensationally sacked at Hillsborough after just ten games in charge of the Yorkshire club.

The former Stoke City manager had taken four points from his last two games but the Owls have taken just 13 points from 21 games this season.

Poyet is the bookies favourite to take over at Wednesday at 7/4 according to thesackrace.

The 53-year-old was linked with a return to the Stadium of Light after Phil Parkinson was sacked.

The Uruguayan was in pole position for the role before ruling himself out of the running.

He claimed that he did not want to manage in League One again at this stage of his career. He's been without a managerial job since he left Bordeaux in 2018.
