GURUGRAM: The city is likely to witness “heavy to very heavy rainfall” between July 20 and July 21, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) which has issued an ‘orange’ and ‘yellow’ alert for Gurugram from Wednesday.
The IMD issues a yellow alert when moderate to heavy rainfall is expected which needs to be watched continuously, while it upgrades the warning to an orange alert when heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected and the administration and public need to be prepared as the extreme weather conditions may impact lives.
Meanwhile, despite light rain at some places on Tuesday afternoon, hot and humid weather conditions continued in the city. The daytime temperature remained four notches above the normal on Tuesday. However, with more showers, the temperature is expected to fall by 3-5Celsius in the coming days and may touch 30Celsius by Thursday, officials said.
The maximum temperature on Tuesday was recorded at 38.5Celsius, same as on the previous day. While the minimum temperature was recorded at 27Celsius — a notch above the normal. The relative humidity index oscillated between 72% and 86% throughout the day.
Light rain started around 2.30 pm and continued till 3.30 pm with a bout of intense spell but it was scattered in nature as result most parts of the city remained dry. The weather station did not gauge any rainfall till Tuesday eve.
