GURUGRAM: A man has been arrested for allegedly making fake passports for gangsters. His role in making passports for relatives of Lawrence Bishnoi, the jailed don whose henchmen have claimed responsibility for the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, is also being probed, police said.
Originally from Nepal, Raju Nepali stayed in Chakapur village of DLF Phase 1 and was arrested from Faridabad on July 27.
An FIR was registered against him at DLF-1 police station under sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of The Passport Act, 1967.
According to the police, Raju was using a fake name, Barav Tiwari, while forging Aadhaar cards, passports, and other identification documents for gangsters. He had been arrested twice from Palam Vihar and Sohna for making fake passports and was out on bail.
Based on a tip-off, a police team was formed to nab Raju along with the special task force. When the team reached, Raju was sitting on the stairs of a Shani temple near DLF Industrial Area of Faridabad with a file in hand.
Initially, he identified himself as Bhairav Tiwari, but when the police kept questioning him, he revealed his real name.
The police said the file Raju was carrying had documents such as Aadhaar cards of people identified as Samar Singh and Jaspal Singh.
They also found the receipt of Jaspal’s appointment at the Passport Kendra in Delhi on July 29.
During interrogation, he revealed that he would change the addresses of criminals and gangsters and make fake identity cards with the help of a friend named Sonu in Delhi. Police said they were investigating Raju’s role in making passports for Lawrence Bishnoi’s brothers and gangster Naresh Sethi.
“Out on bail, he resumed his business. We have not got the trails of gangsters yet. A team has been formed to investigate the original addresses and names recovered under fake passports,” said an STF (Haryana) officer.
The arrest of Raju comes close on the heels of the Haryana Police starting a re-verification of passports made between January 2018 and December 2021 after a scam surfaced earlier this year.
