Guru Satam’s son & nephew get 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment in extortion case

MUMBAI: A special MCOCA court on Tuesday sentenced the son and nephew of gangster Guru Satam and an accomplice to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment in a 2014 extortion case. The duo was convicted last week, after which the court posted the matter for hearing on the quantum of sentence. Among those found guilty under sections of the MCOCA Act and Indian Penal Code were Bhushan Satam, Narhari Satam and an aide, Puranshankar Mishra. The court also fined the accused Rs 15 lakh each.

The accused have been in jail for over seven years. Their sentence will be set off against the time they have spent in jail.

A builder had alleged he had received a Rs 20 lakh extortion call. It was the prosecution’s case the informant who is an employee of the builder filed a report with the city anti-extortion cell alleging on November 26, 2014, he received a call on his mobile from a landline.

It was alleged the caller introduced himself as Sunil and told him his boss, Guru Satam, will call him. Some moments later he received call from an international number and the caller allegedly identified himself as Guru Satam. The caller told him as his employer, the builder, had started a project in his area, he should pay some amount to his men. tnn
