You’ll hear different perspectives and experiences from speakers such as Dr Donna Robinson of MedConsult Clinic and Morgane Quinchone of the American salad café, Dressed. The cool community mall will dedicate the upcoming weekend in support of local artists. Noted illustrator O Terawat, friend-to-Guru street artist ALEX FACE, collage-creator Nakrob/moon/mars/nut and more will showcase their talents. You’ll also have an opportunity to buy original pieces, join workshops, meet the artists (and ask for selfies) and see them in action. All participating artists will work a single canvas during the “Unblanking the Canvas” event, resulting in a unique mix-media masterpiece (and more selfie ops for you).

+ Short Film: Shortcuts, CAT Channel, Until Sep 7
Those aspiring to become filmmakers should consider this contest organised by CAT Channel. Uni students are welcome to submit a short film which illustrates “shortcuts to business success with digital technologies”. The first prize is B100,000 in scholarship. Two runners-up will also receive scholarships. All top three films will be screened at CAT First Class Cinema at CentralWorld. The twenty finalist teams will receive fund to create their short films and join a workshop led by film director Chayanop Boonprakob.

Russian rising-star DJ Shapov, who has been signed to Axwell’s Axtone Records, will be showcasing his pulsating sound. So far this year, Shapov has performed at Tomorrowland, Ushuaïa, Aquarius, Parookaville, Life In Color, solidifying his status as a festival veteran.

Manchester-born Ellen Tomlinson will make you go “555” as she headlines for the open-mic night. Ellen started stand-up in 2012 and quickly became a rising star in the UK comedy scene. She performed her “Sawadee-NAH!” show, which was inspired by her experience in Thailand (duh), at the Women in Comedy Festival 2015. Expect fresh and observational jokes.

It’s abundantly clear that this year will go down as a golden year for big concerts by international names. American rock band OneRepublic will play in Bangkok on Sep 21 at IMPACT Arena. TAT recommends cultural highlights from across the country
Wat Tha Luang in Phichit will host Long Boat Racing Tradition from Sep 2-3 where participants vie for a royal trophy from His Majesty the King Rama X. Besides the race, there will also be a boat parade, OTOP products, light-and-sound performance and more.
A boat race to win a royal trophy from the late King Rama IX will take place from Sep 16-17 in Phitsanulok. A trophy from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will be awarded to the best cheering crowd as well. Boats of various sizes will compete and a merit-making ceremony on boats will take place too.
The ceremony of Akha Swing Tradition in gratitude for Um Sa Yae Goddess, who gives abundance for crops, at Akha village in Chiang Rai continues until the end of this month.
Go northeast to watch the procession of offerings to the great ancestors in the event of Commemoration to Phraya Krai Phakdi on Sep 16 at Khukhan district in Si Sa Ket.

Set in a dystopian future where each family is only limited to having one child, a group of septuplets named after each day of the week are living their lives using the same identity and only going out on their designated day. Despite successfully living in secret for many years, the disappearance of one of their sisters, Monday, causes them to risk capture to find out what happened to her.

Yet even further evidence that Monday causes a lot of problems.

What’s it about?
An emoji named Gene is somehow able to do multiple expressions, a truly harrowing issue for an emoji on a phone. With the help of a few friends, he sets out to become a normal emoji, but instead embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Featuring Professor Xavier and Captain Jean-Luc Picard himself, Patrick Stewart, lending his classical acting training and Shakespearean chops to play the role of... the poop emoji.

The film is based on the true story of Barry Seal, a pilot who ends up running drugs and guns for the CIA in the 1980s and eventually running into infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar.
Why watch it?
It’s the closest thing we’ll have to a Top Gun sequel before the actual one comes out.
+ KILLING GROUND (directed by Damien Power)

Harriet Dyer, Mitzi Ruhlmann, Tiarnie Coupland.
What’s it about?
A couple’s camping trip takes a turn for the worse when they stumble upon an empty tent that seems to be the scene of a crime.
Why watch it?
It has the components of a terrifying film: a mysterious setup, protagonists with no powers or skills in a dangerous situation... and camping.
+ SECURITY (directed by Alain Desrochers)
Who’s in it?
Antonio Banderas, Ben Kingsley.
What’s it about?
A war veteran (Banderas) takes a job as a security guard at a mall. His hopes of an easy job go down the drain on his first night when a teenager seeks refuge at the mall with a bunch of henchmen hot on her tail.
Why watch it?
It’s Paul Blart: Mall Cop but serious, gritty and more intense.

+ INHUMANS (directed by Scott Buck)
Who’s in it?
Anson Mount, Serinda Swan, Iwan Rheon.
What’s it about?
If you watch Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, then you’re probably aware of Inhumans. Based on Marvel’s comics of the same name, the series follows the Inhuman Royal Family, who flee to Earth after being ousted by a military coup on their planet by the king’s brother who’s bent on making a first strike on humankind. The first two episodes will premiere in cinemas.
Why watch it?
If you’re a Marvel fanatic, you really don’t need a reason. If you’re not, they’ve got a giant dog named Lockjaw with superpowers. Got you interested, huh? It will be showing at all Major cinemas here in the big BKK.
