Gurpareet Bains dead: Celebrity chef who created 'world’s healthiest meal' dies aged 43

Gurpareet Bains has died at the age of 43.

The celebrity chef, whose cookbooks based on using the power of superfoods led to him having many famous fans, passed away from a heart attack.

Enfield native Gurpareet was hospitalised last Thursday following a heart attack.

His kidneys failed when he regained consciousness a day later and he died earlier this week.

His management agency Palamedes PR announced the sad news on Twitter.

The account penned: "We’re absolutely devastated about the tragic passing of Gurpareet Bains.

"The internationally bestselling author, Indian superfoods pioneer & creator of ‘the world’s healthiest meal’ was a close friend & long-standing client. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends."

The cook first came to the international spotlight in 2009 when he claimed to have created the world’s healthiest meal.

The dish was a simple chicken curry with blueberries which contained the antioxidant equivalent of 23 bunches of grapes.

His went on to find success with recipe books and his debut cookbook, Indian Superfood, published by Bloomsbury in July 2010 became a bestseller.

In 2012, Bains launched his second recipe book and culinary concept, Indian Superspices, which was among the top 50 cookbooks of the year.

He was crowned Chef of the Year at the inaugural English Curry Awards in 2011.

The Insomnia-No-More Curry from his recipe book was formally recognised by the Experimental Food Society in November 2012.

Gurpareet use of spices in medicinal quantities to recipes that are believed to help alleviate everyday ailments led to him becoming a firm favourite among big names who like to look after their health.
