Unidentified gunmen shot dead Manish Gujjar, elder brother of jailed gangster and former Gurgaon councillor Binder Gujjar, in Gurgaon’s New colony on Monday night.
Manish, 42, alias Pappu was going to collect the cash at one of his liquor shops in his Hyundai Creta when a group of four-five men fired at him near Prem Mandir in New colony at 11 pm.
Manish, his driver Sukhbir and an aide Liyakat were injured and rushed to Medanta, the Medicity where Manish succumbed to bullet injuries, police said. Sukhbir and Liyakat are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
“Four-five gunmen already waiting near the liquor vend fired at him while he was in the SUV. Manish, his driver and another person were rushed to the hospital where Manish died,” said a Gurgaon police spokesperson.
Manish is a liquor businessman and operated 32 liquor vends across Gurgaon.
Police said, at least 15 rounds were fired; Manish was hit by five including one in his head. Police suspect the murder was a result of inter-gang rivalry.
Manish’s younger brother Binder Gujjar , a rival of slain gangster Sandeep Gadoli, is serving a term at Bhondsi jail in connection with murder of a property dealer Raju Sethi on November 10, 2015. Binder’s driver Ashok Kumar was shot dead on October 4, 2015 allegedly by Gadoli’s men.
Their youngest brother Manoj Gujjar is one of the accused booked by Mumbai police as a conspirator in the alleged fake encounter of Sandeep Gadoli at a Mumbai hotel on February 7 this year.
Recent incidents of organised crime in Gurgaon suggest that the city is going back in time when gang wars used to dominate public life until the early 2000s. This is a third murder in the city due to alleged gangwars in less than a month.
On September 21, 34-year-old Mahesh ‘Attack’ was shot dead by members of rival gang outside his office near Jharsa Chowk on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. He was an accused in 21 cases of attempts to murder, extortion and snatching.
On October 15, 20-year-old Vikram Sehrawat, suspected to be a member of a gang led by Rakesh Kumar Hayatpur, was found dead in Sector 37.
