Gurgaon: DHBVN in a fix as residents face 4-5 hour power cuts

Residents of sectors 27 and 28 said they have been facing 4-5 hour long power cuts over the last couple of weeks and officials of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) have paid no heed to their pleas of restoring normal supply.

Power cuts have been reported from other parts of the city as well. Residents said repeated outages only serve to highlight the woeful power situation in the city and raise serious doubts on whether the DHBVN will be able to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply 24/7 as promised by top discom officials.

Pankaj Verma, a resident of Sector 28, said, “We can’t even begin to describe how badly we are being affected by the power cuts these days. There are at least 3-4 outages everyday and each of them spans 4-5 hours on an average. This has been happening everyday over the last couple of weeks. We tried our best to get in touch with senior DHBVN officials, including the junior engineer and sub-divisional engineers, but they never take our calls. We just want the DHBVN to inform us about scheduled power cuts, if any, so that we could take necessary preparations.”

Residents said they have no clue why they are facing 4-5 hour long power cuts daily, as the discom has claimed it has enough electricity in stock to meet the city’s requirements.

“DHBVN claims it has enough electricity to meet the city’s need and it doesn’t need to resort to scheduled power cuts. However, what we have been dealing with instead is unscheduled power cuts, stretching to 4-5 hours. We desperately uninterrupted power supply as the state government promised,” Yogender Singh Bhati, a resident of Sector 27, said, adding that top discom officials should be made accountable for every single power cut in the city.

In New Palam Vihar, the residents faced 9-hour long power cuts last weekend.

“We faced 8-9 long power cuts last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. DHBVN officials blamed the outages on technical faults. Why should residents be made to suffer this way? The discom should ensure better service,” Lokesh Sharma, a resident of New Palam Vihar said.

Sanjiv Chopra, chief engineer, DHBVN, said, “I will check with officials concerned why the power cuts are taking place.”
