Gurgaon: CM unavailable, rail overbridge on NPR awaits opening

The rail overbridge (RoB) on the northern peripheral road (NPR) at Basai missed its second deadline too due to the unavailability of chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar to inaugurate it. The chief minister had announced May 15 as the ROB’s first deadline during his visit to the city on April 15. Later, the Haryana urban development authority (Huda) set its second deadline for June 1.

Huda has completed engineering works on the RoB, but officials are now waiting for the CM to confirm the date of his next availability. It has set a fresh deadline of June 15.

Superintending engineer (SE), Huda, Naresh Pawar, said, “We will hopefully be able to open the ROB for traffic by June 15. It is ready to be opened on our part and there is no harm in opening it for traffic movement. The final inauguration by the CM will be done later.”

The ROB measuring 1,300 metres (or 1.3km) has been built on the NPR to connect sectors such as 37 C and D with sectors 100 and 102. It will also expedite traffic movement across new sectors such as 37 C and D and sectors 81 to 115 that are separated by the Delhi-Gurgaon-Rewari railway line and a drain.

Khattar had inspected the ROB and the Basai flyover and expressed his desire to inaugurate the new ROB by May 15 and ordered widening of the flyover that is also built on the same railway line.

The delay in opening the ROB has worried buyers in projects along NPR. They had hoped that the bridge would add value to the upcoming residential and commercial projects in new sectors along the NPR, which is also known as Dwarka Expressway.

Dheeraj Babbar, a buyer in Ramprastha City Project, Sector 37 D, said, “It is great that the ROB on Basai road has been completed one month ago. But, sadly, it is not operational yet. I am looking forward to it as it will help improve connectivity of the upcoming sectors in that area and make them more habitable.”

“Infrastructure is not a luxury in Gurgaon that awaits inauguration by a celebrity. The ROB has already been delayed by a year. We hope Huda puts it to use right away if the technical clearance has been given by the engineering wing. The delay will only result in worry for homebuyers,” said Gaurav Prakash, founder member of the Dwarka Expressway welfare association.
