Gunshots fired near popular Scots walking route as police launch probe

A probe has been launched after a gunshots were heard near a 'well used' Scots walking route and a car seen driving off from the scene.

Shocked locals reported that a gun had been fired near between the B6372 and the A703, near to the Gladhouse Reservoir in Midlothian around 2.30pm on Monday.

A Silver Subaru Forester has been seen to drive off towards Gorebridge after the shooting.

The land around the 460 acre body of water, which supplies much of Edinburgh's drinking water, is regularly used by walkers and others.

Cops have launched a probe into the mystery gunshots and say they are trying to find out why the gun was shot.

Detective Inspector Debbie Duncan urged anyone with information to come forward.

She said: “This is a popular area used by walkers, runners and dog-walkers so I would ask anyone who was in this area to think back and consider whether they saw this silver car or noticed anything unusual of suspicious.

"In particular, I would like to appeal to motorists with dash cams to check their footage.

"It’s possible your camera may have picked up images of this car either in the area or on its way to Gorebridge.

"Please do pass on any information, no matter how insignificant as it could assist us as we piece together what has happened and why.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 1875 of Monday, 8 February, 2021.
