'Gunshots' fired at 'man holding baby' according to neighbours

Locals said that several gunshots shots were fired at a man holding a baby outside a house in Warrington.

Police were called to Monks Place in the Carrington Park area of Warrington, Cheshire, at around 10am today following reports that shots were fired. There was a police cordon in place today at the scene.

A number of locals told the ECHO that shots were fired at a man who was holding a baby.

A local woman said: "He had a baby in his arms. The gunmen missed."

It is not yet clear if the gunmen made off on foot  or in a car.

Police at the scene refused to discuss the matter with the ECHO.

There was no evidence of a forensic tent.

Monks Place is a smart residential square made up of three storey town houses priced in region of £200,000.

The shooting happened yards from a children's  play area. One dad said to the ECHO: "Yes there are always kids playing out here, particularly on a Saturday morning. It's shocking."

Cheshire Police are yet to release a statement on the incident.
