Guns, knives, axes and crossbows found in Merseyside's most dangerous garden shed

Guns, knives, axes and crossbows were just some of the terrifying weapons found by police after raiding a garden shed.

The raid was organised under the offensive weapons act before officers searched the house and shed in Sutton Leach, St Helens , on Tuesday morning.

While searching the property a large amount of terrifying weapons were found inside the shed, including guns, knives and knuckle dusters.

Among the weapons was 57 firearms , 40 large knives and machetes, 38 air pistols, 20 folding knives, ten swords, three crossbows, two axes, two wooden handled flick knives, two knuckle dusters, a zombie knife and a Taser.

Merseyside Police have confirmed that a number of the weapons were legally held but that a 56-year-old man was arrested for a range of firearm offences.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We have seized a large amount weapons following a warrant at a residential address in St Helens.

"Officers attended the address in Sutton Leach yesterday morning (10th December) to conduct a warrant under the offensive weapons act.

Inside a shed at the back of the property they located numerous weapons including 57 firearms/air weapons, 40 large knives/machetes, 38 air pistols, 20 folding knives, ten swords, three crossbows, two axes, two wooden handled flick knives, two knuckle dusters, a zombie knife and a Taser.

"The occupier, a 56 year old man, was arrested for firearms offences. He was taken to custody for further investigation.

"A large number of the weapons were surrendered to the Police and taken away to either be destroyed or sent to our clearing house for further examination."

Inspector Neil Birkett said: “Although a large number of these weapons were legally held by the occupier, we were hugely concerned about the sheer amount of weapons we found and the risk to the community if they fell into the wrong hands.

“Storing weapons anywhere, let alone a garden shed, whether they are legally held or not, is worrying to say the least.

"However we are thankful for any information relating to the storage of weapons and I would continue to encourage the community to provide information.”

Anyone with information about this incident should contact Merseyside Police quoting ref: 19100721378.

"Alternatively, if you know someone storing, buying or carrying weapons, please get in touch – either DM @MerPolCC, contact @CrimestoppersUK anonymously or call 101.
