Guns found in Toxteth and cannabis farm discovered in the Georgian Quarter as national raids hit Liverpool

Two guns were discovered when police raided a home in Toxteth as part of a national drugs investigation.

Ten warrants were executed across Liverpool, Manchester, Cardiff and London on Tuesday morning.

The searches that followed led to the discovery of the handguns as well as a cannabis farm in the Georgian Quarter and a "large quantity of cash."

The 7am raids came as part of a drugs probe extending from Merseyside to South Wales and which led to five men being arrested and suspects being produced from HMP Cardiff and HMP Manchester.

Those inmates have since been released under investigation and returned to jail.

Superintendent Mark Wiggins said: “Supplying, dealing or taking drugs is extremely dangerous. The majority of those living in Merseyside abide by the law, however some people think it is appropriate to pray on the vulnerabilities of others and entice them into consuming or selling drugs which can ultimately lead to them being involved in other serious crime .”

Supt Wiggins added: “No one wants to live next door to a drug dealer and face the repercussions of serious and organised crime that often goes hand in hand with this behaviour.

“If you suspect someone is involved in this sort of criminality or concerned that one of your friends or family members could be at risk of falling into the wrong crowd, then please call us. By reporting it to us, we can take deadly substances off our streets and bring offenders to justice.”
