Atlanta rappers Young Thug and Gunna posted bail for 30 inmates at Atlanta’s Fulton County Jail on Sunday (25 April).

“This is where we are from,” Thug told WSB-TV2.

“We just woke up and went to the jail with the lawyer, DAs, and the prosecutors and, you know, the bonding company and just got as many people as we can out,” he said.

“You never know what somebody’s been through. There was people sitting out three or four years and couldn’t get out on a bond,” said Gunna.

Thug explained: “If they did the crime, then they can do the time, then it’s all right. But it’s like, you’re giving them a bond higher than what they stole.”

According to WSB-TV, the Fulton County Jail is exceptionally overcrowded with 2,900 individuals imprisoned there which sums up to 400 more individuals than its capacity.

“This is some of the worst conditions I’ve ever seen,” said councilman Michael Bond.

Thug said “it feels so good to the point where you start feeling that’s why God put me here. He put me here to do this”.

Both artists revealed that this initiative was not a one-time thing and that they will continue to return. They likewise urged others from the industry to do the same.

Reports state that Thug’s record label, Young Stoner Life Records, shot an emotional video showing the moment dozens of inmates were released from the Fulton County Jail and rejoined with their family.

The recording is supposed to be shown in a forthcoming music video.

Thug and Gunna recently released a music video for their single “Ski” on 17 April.
