Gunmen Kill Grupo Dorado Singer Juan Luiz 'Bosho' Martínez Inside His Home

The regional Mexican music scene is in mourning after the violent death of Juan Luiz Martínez López, the beloved vocalist of Grupo Dorado de Abasolo, who was fatally shot in front of his family during a private gathering at his home in Abasolo, Guanajuato.

According to reports from Univision, the tragedy occurred on Sunday, October 26, while the singer was spending the afternoon with relatives and close friends. Witnesses told local authorities that two men arrived at the residence, and one of them fired several shots at the artist, affectionately known as "Bosho." Martínez was hit at least five times before his attackers fled in a vehicle.

Paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross arrived quickly, but Martínez had no vital signs when they reached him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police immediately cordoned off the area, while agents from Guanajuato's Criminal Investigation Agency and forensic specialists began collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Authorities believe the attack was targeted, though the motive remains unclear. As of press time, there have been no arrests reported in connection with the killing. The state of Guanajuato, a key industrial hub, has been one of the most violent regions in Mexico in recent years, with musicians and public figures increasingly becoming victims of organized crime-related violence.

Grupo Dorado de Abasolo, the band Martínez helped lead to local fame, expressed their grief on social media. On the group's official Facebook page, they shared a black-and-white photo of their late frontman alongside a heartfelt message: "Fly high, my friend. You leave a huge void, but we know you're singing on a better stage."

Later that evening, the group announced that Martínez's wake would take place at his home, where he spent his final moments surrounded by family. A memorial mass was scheduled for Wednesday, October 29, though details about the burial have not been made public.

Known throughout southern Guanajuato for his distinctive voice and charisma, Bosho Martínez had become a respected figure in regional Mexican music. His performances with Grupo Dorado de Abasolo combined heartfelt lyrics, traditional instrumentation, and an authentic representation of small-town pride. Fans often praised his down-to-earth nature and constant interaction with his audience both on stage and online.

Just weeks before his death, Martínez had celebrated his birthday on August 3, sharing a cheerful post on social media thanking fans for their support and describing himself as "blessed" by the love he had received.

The killing of Bosho adds to a growing list of attacks against musicians in Mexico's regional genres, which have been targeted in violent incidents across states such as Sinaloa, Michoacán, and Guanajuato. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that Martínez's murder could be linked to the area's ongoing security crisis, though they emphasize that investigations are still underway.
