NEW YORK _ Of all the amenities one might expect from an Upper East Side luxury high-rise, being put in a gunman's sights isn't one of them.
Cops are searching for a gunman who has twice opened fire on a posh E. 72nd St. building with breathtaking views of the East River _ and are looking into the possibility that the bullets came from nearby Roosevelt Island.
Shots were fired at 1 East River Place beginning on Thursday night when a bullet punched through a living room window of a 14th floor home. When the tenant woke up the next morning, he found a broken window and a bullet fragment, which was given over to the police, officials said.
The next night, a tenant on the 32nd floor reported that his window was damaged by gunfire, although no ballistics were recovered.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
Police are trying to track down where shots were fired from _ and Roosevelt Island on the top of their list.
The two damaged windows face the two-mile spit of land that sits on the East River between the Upper East Side and Long Island City and the second incident corresponds with a report of shots fired on Roosevelt Island, sources with knowledge of the case said.
No arrests have been made.
One East River Place has its own gated entry, private driveway, 24-hour concierge service, its own health facility and a beautifully landscaped sculpture garden and lighted reflecting pool that looks over the East River, according to the building's website.
Rents range from $3,250 a month for a one-bedroom to $7,595 a month for a two bedroom, according to the website streeteasy.com.
A call to 1 East River Place for comment was not immediately returned.
The area made headlines in 2006 when Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle crashed his plane into a building across the street, officials said.
