A gunman opened fire outside a busy pub after a dramatic bike chase through a Kirkby estate.

Emergency services were called to Sapphire Drive, in Towerhill, close to The Windmill pub, shortly before 9pm on Friday.

Witnesses reported that a number of shots had been fired after a dramatic bike chase took place through the estate.

It is believed that a man on a bike was being chased by two others, also on bikes, before a gunman fired shots.

The men involved, were all wearing dark clothes and were reportedly seen by a number of people outside the pub.

No one was injured in the incident.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We are appealing for information after reports shots were fired in Tower Hill this evening (Friday 1 October).

"Officers were called to Sapphire Drive, close to The Windmill pub, just after 8.40pm.

"It was reported a male on a bike was being chased by two other males, also on bikes before the shots were heard.

"The males, who were reportedly wearing dark clothing, then left the scene."

Officers remain at the scene where they are carrying out CCTV, forensic and witness enquiries, and providing reassurance to the local community.

Detective Inspector Jackie Guinness said: “We are in the very early stages of this investigation and we’re keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with any information.

“This is a residential area, and we know there were a number of people in and around the Windmill pub at the time of the incident.

“There will be people out there who know what happened and may have even witnessed the incident - I urge those people to tell us what you know.

“If you spotted anyone making off, please check your CCTV, dashcam or other devices and come forward.

“Thankfully there are no reports of injuries, but to fire a gun in a residential area is clearly an extremely reckless and dangerous act which could have led to tragedy in the heart of the Tower Hill community.

“So if you know anything, please tell us and we’ll take action to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
