Gunman opens fire on Salford street - before someone turns up at hospital

A man was blasted in the hand as shots were fired on a Salford street.

Police have launched an investigation following the incident on Tuesday night (November 17).

Officers were called to reports of shots being fired at around 7.20pm.

A 38-year-old man later turned up at hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand.

He has since been discharged.

The scene on Littleton Road (Vincent Cole)

Greater Manchester Police said an investigation is underway.

A scene was in place on Littleton Road in Lower Kersal.

A section of the road was taped off as officers carried out enquiries.

No arrests have been made.

Enquiries are ongoing, GMP said.

A resident who lives on Hillside Avenue, close to the cordon, said she had heard a 'very loud bang' from Littleton Road at around 8pm.

“It was extremely loud,” she said.

“I definitely heard it, but I thought it must have been a firework or something for Bonfire night.

“I’ve never heard a gun shot before and I definitely wouldn’t expect it around here.”

Police tactical aid officers and a search unit were also sent to the scene and appeared to be preparing for a search.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3777, quoting incident number 2484 of November 17; or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
