Gunman opens fire in Huyton street as police put huge cordon in place

A road has been cordoned off after a gunman opened fire in the street.

At least four police vehicles could be seen this morning in the taped-off Shelley Close in Huyton, where shots were fired at a house in a terrifying shooting last night.

Merseyside Police said they were called at around 10.15pm after the gunman blasted the property.

A caved-in door can be seen, with police confirming damage to the house "was caused by a firearm".

Thankfully nobody was injured.

Forensics and police remain at the scene and witnesses were today urged to come forward to help the police's investigation.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "An investigation is underway after shots were fired in Huyton last night, Monday, May 24.

"Shortly after 10.15pm, a report was received that shots had been fired and damage had been caused to a house in Shelley Close. Patrols attended and confirmed that the damage was caused by a firearm.

"Nobody was injured during the incident."

The spokesperson added: "Officers remain in the area to carry out witness, forensic, and CCTV enquiries, and anyone with information is asked to get in touch."

Police encouraged people to check dashcam and CCTV footage to see if the gunman was caught on camera.

Detective Inspector Paul Gillies said: “We are in the very early stages of an investigation after a house was damaged after shots were fired in Huyton last night, and we are looking to speak to anyone who heard or saw the incident, or any suspicious behaviour in the area.

“The use of weapons can have devastating consequences and will not be tolerated by Merseyside Police or the communities we serve.

"At this stage we are working to establish the exact circumstances and I would ask anyone with CCTV, dashcam footage or other information, to please let us know so that we can act upon it.”
